This year's theme is “Creating Connections and Spreading Kindness”. This includes focusing on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and health of yourself and others.

Our goal is to help you to connect and be kinder to yourself, which will in turn help you do the same for others such as your family, friends and community. How you choose to do that can be up to you; please feel free to send us any of your ideas!

January 27th 2020 - 'Murder On The Orient Express' by Agatha Christie

After you're done with the Christmas festivities, Nikita hopes you will settle in with this extraordinary work by the world's most widely read authors...Murder on the Orient Express is undoubtedly one of Agatha Christie's greatest mystery novels. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment.  Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.

March 30th - 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho

Just in time for spring, Nikita would like to share a personal favorite, The Alchemist...written by Paulo Coelho which continues to change the lives of its readers forever. With more than two million copies sold around the world, The Alchemist has established itself as a modern classic, universally admired. Paulo Coelho's masterpiece tells the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. The story teaches us, as only a few stories can, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams.

May 25th - 'Woo, The Monkey Who Inspired Emily Carr' by Emily Carr

In keeping with her fondness for literature that honors the human-animal bond, Nikita has chosen a contemporary read in this beautiful account of Emily Carr and her monkey Woo. Although Emily Carr is now considered a Canadian legend, the most enduring image is that of her pushing a beat-up old pram into downtown Victoria, loaded with dogs, cats, birds—and a monkey. Woo, a Javanese macaque whom Carr adopted in 1923, has become inextricably linked with Carr in the popular imagination. Welcoming the mischievous Woo into her life, Carr also welcomed a freedom that allowed a full blooming of artistic expression and gave Canada and the world great art unlike any other before or since.
